West Texas Adventure

West Texas Adventure

I truly believe you can’t call yourself a Texan until you have explored West Texas.

It’s a long drive but can done in a day. You can hike, bike, explore canyons, swim in the Rio Grande, soak in hot springs, check out the artist scene in Marfa, the ghost town in Terilingua and even venture into a cool little Mexican town where tourism is their livelihood. That just scratches the surface of the adventures West Texas holds.

This was our second Spring Break to West Texas.  We stopped for a pictures at the Prada store artist display on the way to Marfa. The road is busy and the 8 kids we had with us made that photo stop stressful. Up next was Parisano Hotel on Marfa. The courtyard is amazing. We enjoyed margaritas and snacks then continued on to Chianti Hot Springs. We spent a night in an adorable cabin in Chianti Hot Springs, the hot spring was awesome and the community kitchen are what my dreams are made of. Our favorite part of the trip is always the trip to Bouquillas. You must have a US passport to enter. There is a very nice US immigration office you cross through before riding a row boat across the Rio Grande and saddling up and riding a donkey into town.  Once you get to town you have a host, between us and our friends we have used Martin four times. He is very friendly and takes us to his hot spring on the Mexico side. Its SO cool and we have been the only people there both times we have been. This time we had too much fun to leave at the cut off time so all 14 of us stayed at Martin’s home, they cooked us dinner and breakfast before we headed back to Texas. Because we didn’t know we were staying the night the next morning we had to go to the store in town and buy toothbrushes, they only had two so YES we shared 8-). There are two restaurants here, we love Jose Falcon’s and one bar.

Check the dates and hours they are open before you go.

I LOVE these picture’s from our first trip to Boquillas!

This is the route we took.
